My very first decent family tent was the Vango Icarus 5, and some 25 years on, it still holds a special place in my heart. The Eurohike Sendero could be regarded as a budget version of that tent, as it’s a similar size and shape, but it retails at just £99.

The lower price point is achieved by cutting down on premium materials and features, but that said, you’re still getting a lot of tent for your money with the Sendero.

With a HH of 2000mm, this tent sits firmly at the entry-level range in terms of performance and whilst it will keep you dry – indeed when I tested the tent, it rained overnight and the tent coped well – its waterproof rating is half that of the Icarus, which gives you some insight in the difference in price points.

The Sendero also lacks features like fly bug mesh on the door, there are no bedroom dividers, no integrated storage pockets, and there’s just 1 zipped door – but honestly a tent of this size doesn’t really need any more. So whilst this is a basic tent, there are also some great features, like a zipped ground-level cable entry point, front air vents, lantern hanging points and a deep sewn-in bucket groundsheet.

This is a standard poled tunnel tent design that’s easy and intuitive to pitch, and it has a ‘pitch in one’ construction meaning no having to faff around with inner tents and a separate flysheet.

Verdict

This is a great value, no-frills tent which makes the perfect choice for young families camping for the first time, festival goers and for couples on a budget looking for a spacious tent for summer camping. It’s available in an array of really lovely colours too, ensuring you’ll stand out at the campsite.

It’s a tent that’s easy to pitch and has a relatively small pack size compared to it’s pitched footprint and that deep bucket-fronted sewn-in groundsheet provides additional protection in wet weather. It’s a solid budget choice and we’ve rated it 4/5 stars.

If you want something sturdier and more capable of surviving prolonged heavy rain, you might want to consider something like the Vango Icarus 5 instead.
