Linda and Dennis Gendron didn’t begin with a destination in mind. Instead, they started with a feeling: it was time for an adventure. Having traveled before, they weren’t looking to simply check off another destination or follow a set itinerary with a group.
“We really wanted an individualized adventure in a Jeep with just the two of us so we could have more one-on-one time, and Enchanting Travels came through with that in an unbelievable fashion.”
Linda and Dennis arrived in Kenya at midnight from Cairo and stepped off the plane into the unfamiliar quiet of a new country. But they were not left to navigate it alone. After being met and guided through the airport, they were taken to their hotel to rest, waking to clear light, warm air, and a sense of anticipation. Their guide, Bovin, suggested meeting at noon, giving them time to ease into the day. Soon, they were driving through landscapes alive with color, passing unfamiliar plants and catching glimpses of wildlife, on the way to their first meal of authentic Kenyan cuisine. It was a simple introduction, but one that drew them easily into the rhythm of a country that would feel less foreign with every passing hour.
From that point on, each morning began the same way: with anticipation. They didn’t know exactly what they would see, but they knew it would be filled with memorable moments. One such moment played out at the Sopa Resort, where they stayed in spacious, hut-style accommodations surrounded by nature. Stepping out for dinner one night, they discovered giraffes — Linda’s favorite — waiting along the path. Not in the distance or behind a barrier but right there, nearly close enough to touch. The giraffes kept a respectful distance, but as Linda and Dennis moved, they moved too, almost as if they were quietly accompanying them for part of the way.
“We were getting ready to go for dinner the first night and, when we walked out the door, there on the path were giraffes. They weren’t bothered by the humans, even though they were still obviously wild animals. It was amazing, standing right there beside a giraffe.”

Experiences like this became a pattern rather than an exception. In places like Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where they stayed at the luxurious Pelican House, each day revealed something new. From their deck, they could observe wildlife moving through the landscape, while game drives brought them closer to Kenya’s remarkable biodiversity. They saw elephants, hippos, warthogs, hyenas, cheetahs, zebras, and rhinos in numbers that reflected the success of ongoing conservation efforts.
“At the [Pelican House] we had our two private cooks who knew what we wanted and they were lovely. We got treated like royalty. It was peaceful and the animals came right to the watering hole off our deck.”
And there were lions as well—entire prides, including cubs. At times, they witnessed the raw, unfiltered reality of the wild: predators with their prey, nature unfolding as it has for centuries. These moments were made even more meaningful by their safari guide, Daniel, whose deep knowledge of the ecosystem, patience, and genuine passion shaped each day. Through time spent together on game drives, he came to understand what Linda and Dennis were hoping to experience, often anticipating those moments before they even asked. By the end of their safari, the connection felt personal and it felt like saying goodbye to a friend.

Yet, for all the wildlife-inspired wonder, one of Linda and Dennis’ most cherished memories had nothing to do with animals at all. During their journey, they enjoyed one of Enchanting Travels’ special Meaningful Experiences and were invited to spend part of the day with a local Kenyan family. Under one roof they shared food, conversation, and, most importantly, time. It wasn’t a performance or a brief stop, but an open expression of the warmth of Kenyan hospitality. For a while, they were more than just visitors passing through. They were guests, on an adventure and moving to the rhythm of everyday life.
“They told us their stories and helped us become part of the family for a day. We felt like we knew them. It was fantastic and humbling.”
In the days that followed, that sense of ease continued. Back at home, Linda and Dennis still found themselves reflecting on how effortlessly the entire journey had unfolded. From the moment they left home, drivers, guides, and local teams were always where they needed to be, ensuring that every transition felt smooth and stress-free. The unfamiliar never became overwhelming; instead, it became part of the experience itself. And that level of care allowed them to focus on what mattered most: being fully present in each moment.
“We’ve never been treated that way on a trip before. It started with our layover in Cairo when we were met and escorted right to our gate in ten minutes. What a great start that was!”
Before returning home to Canada, their journey continued with a final stop along Kenya’s coast. A short flight brought them to Diani Beach, where they stayed at an all-inclusive resort on the Indian Ocean called the Baobab Beach Resort & Spa. After days on safari, there was time to relax, reflect, and take in a completely different side of the country, with ocean views and a setting that matched the rest of their experience in comfort and beauty.

Looking back, what stands out to Linda and Dennis most isn’t a single moment or event. Instead they remember feelings.
The anticipation at the start of each day.
The quiet companionship of giraffes.
The awe of seeing wildlife in its natural environment.
The warmth of being welcomed, even briefly, into someone else’s world.
Linda and Dennis set out in search of an adventure and found a journey that felt entirely their own, in a place they hadn’t initially considered but ultimately came to value deeply. In the end, Kenya offered exactly what they had been hoping to find: the time they shared together, discovering something new, side by side.
