This is the essence of the partnership between Nature Canada and SAVE Brasil, a continental mission to protect these magnificent creatures.
In a conversation between Ted Cheskey, Naturalist Director at Nature Canada and Pedro Develey, CEO of SAVE Brasil, Pedro shared his excitement about this collaboration.
“The birds connect us. We have the birds that during [Canada]winter, they go to the south to our country, and then once it’s cold in [Brazil], they go back to your country.”
This cyclical journey underscores the importance of international cooperation in bird conservation.
The joint project focuses on the Lagoa do Peixe National Park, a critical stopover for migratory birds along the Atlantic flyway. Although the park is a protected area, challenges remain. Engaging the local community and fostering education are key components of our strategy. By connecting schools in Canada and Brazil, we aim to create a network of young conservationists who understand the global significance of their local wildlife.
A Message of Hope: Rallying for Action
Pedro emphasizes the urgency of the project:. “We are facing tough times. We are facing a biodiversity crisis. We are losing species. That’s a reality,” he acknowledges. Yet, there is still hope.
“We still have time to save our planet, to save our biodiversity. We have technology, we have good examples. So it’s still possible, but everybody should be together.”
We aim to inspire leaders to take decisive action, driven by the public’s desire for change and hope for a sustainable future.
Connecting Communities: The Future of Bird Conservation
By fostering connections between communities across the Americas, we are building a foundation for lasting conservation efforts. As Pedro notes, “Working with kids is so important. They realize that the birds that visit their region are also connected with other kids across the Americas.” This awareness is crucial for nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards.
Together, we are poised to make a significant impact on bird conservation. Our partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration and the shared responsibility we have to protect our planet’s biodiversity.
Join us in this journey to safeguard the future of our feathered friends and, in turn, our own.
